Instructor of Urban Fusion on Wednesdays: 8:30-9:30pm at Solstice Studio.
Serena is known for her boundless energy, diverse freestyle dance background, and clean, precise technique. She brings an encouraging, positive attitude and a dynamic teaching style to her Urban Fusion class at Solstice Studio. Over the past decade, Serena has immersed herself in many dance styles ranging from African, bhangra, capoeira, house, and hip hop to ballroom, ballet, and Cunningham modern. This eclectic variety has given her the ability to flow sinuously from one style to another and fuse together movement qualities that would rarely be combined. In 2007, a friend introduced her to bellydance and she was mesmerized by its inherent grace, power, and fluidity. She began studying and performing cabaret bellydance and Indian dance as a member of the Inner Spirit Dance Company and taught hip hop and freestyle dance at the Inner Spirit Dance Studio. After relocating to Brooklyn, Serena found the home of East Coast Tribal in 2009 and settled into the warm, loving community at Solstice Studio. Since then, Serena has become a member of the East Coast Tribal Soloist Salon, the Solstice Project, and the Solstice Ensemble and began teaching Urban Fusion. In addition to her continuing studies with Sera and fellow Solstice instructor, Darshan, Serena has taken intensive workshops and classes with Suhaila Salimpour, Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, and Sarah "Jezebel" Wood. She also continues to expand into ever-changing realms of dance outside of bellydance to become an increasingly versatile fusionista.
