**********************************************************************
East Coast Tribal is a movement discipline, a dance-style, and a perspective: grounded in Bellydance, with light influences of Hip hop, Modern Dance, and Martial Arts. East Coast Tribal strives towards artistic expression, over spectacle. The goal is to use Bellydance as an physical response to current times, emotions, and influences, both within the dancers personal life, as well as her broader community.
This dance style is given it's name through performances by Solstice Dance Ensemble, led by choreographer Sera Solstice, and the instruction offered at Solstice Studio in New York City. Musical collaborations are a distinctive element of East Coast Tribal, with tendancies towards non-mainstream electronic music. East Coast Tribal performances are usually highly choreographed, and are approached as a language form. Dancers continuously search for new ways to reflect their world, both outside and inside, through performance. Movements are typically bold, aggressive, expansive, contrasting with pop'n lock elements.

What we need from you:
- Full commitment to your class: We can promise you that your dance will develop beyond your expectation if you can commit to your class. Committing
to your weekly dance-practice will bring more then just
dance-development, it will create a sense of peace between you and your
body, allowing you access to the depths of bellydance beyond the
surface of look and style...

- Practice outside of class: Even if only for 5 minutes a
day, shimmy while brushing your teeth, stretching while talking on the
phone, rolling your belly while standing on the subway platform...If
you can put a little effort into your dance when you are away from
class, your development will increase much faster, and so will your
sense of inner alignment with your body and emotions regarding your
body.
- Patience with yourself: Each week of class will present
new challenges. You are full of courage and humility to walk through
the studio door to become a student. You will receive the most for
your investment when you release your expectations, and allow yourself
time to learn and grow at your own speed.
- Support and love for fellow dancers: We take pride
in being a large community of primarily women, with little to no drama.
We consciously leave our baggage behind us when we step onto our dance
floor. We seek community, support, and friendship amongst each other.
Competitiveness and cattiness is not welcome.
- Please read the class etiquette page.

Why don't we don't offer drop-ins (for most classes)?
If you really want to learn to dance, we need to know that
you are committed. Taking a class every other week, or only when you
feel like it will not yield the same growth and experience as committing
to a class, and a group of people who are also committed. Your teacher
has a session planned so that she can guide you to each next step, and
you are allowed to grow and evolve as a dancer. Remember, if you need
to miss a class, you have many opportunities to make up your missed
class.
